The UF College of Nursing Research Day will feature faculty and student research poster presentations in areas such as adult and elderly nursing, pain, health-care environments and systems, and women’s, children’s and family nursing. Student posters will be judged and prizes awarded.

The Malasanos Distinguished Lectureship brings distinguished speakers to the university every two years to discuss a wide variety of health topics of interest to clinicians, patients and the public.

This year's featured speaker is Kathleen R. Stevens, RN, MS, EdD, FAAN, Professor and Director of ACE (Academic Center for Evidence-Based Practice) at the Department of Family Nursing Care at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Her presentation is titled "Evidence-Based Quality & Safety: Can We See Clearly Now?”

Key Points (Objectives) of the presentation include:

  1. 1. GETTING THE EVIDENCE STRAIGHT
    1. Forms of knowledge-What are they? o Do systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines really work?
  1. 2. GETTING THE EVIDENCE USED
    1. Using Evidence—Who cares?
    2. Actions and Attitudes—What must we do?

The Malasanos Distinguished Lectureship was endowed in 1992 in honor of John Malasanos, husband of former College of Nursing Dean Lois Malasanos.
