Research Seminars and Writing Support Group

The ORS sponsors monthly research seminars during the acadmic year and a writing support group throughout the year. Both are open to participation by faculty and doctoral students. See the research calendar for topics and schedules.

Research seminars are typically presented on topics of interest to active or beginning researchers. "How to Write a Successful Grant Proposal" or "What Makes a Good Peer Review for Journal Articles" are representative of these types of topics. Material from past seminars is available in the ORS library or via the Research course in Blackboard. Contact the ORS office manager Laurie Rinfret for more information.

The writing support group offers peer support, editorial input, content review, and general encouragement to faculty members and PhD students working on a variety of professional writing projects. Work may be brought to the group for discussion at any stage, from the seed of an idea to a manuscript being revised for resubmission to a journal. The WSG is a valuable writing resource for developing critical thinking and writing skills as a reader, observer and/or reviewer. Please feel free to contact the ORS editor Pam Selby for more information.
