PhD in Nursing Science Program Description
The UF PhD of Nursing Science program prepares scientists, scholars and leaders in nursing. Comprehensive research preparation is achieved by pairing students with faculty researchers. Students have access to an array of UF faculty members for interdisciplinary study and research. Applicants, whose prior study, work experience and proposed research focus, are congruent with the research focal areas of the College of Nursing will be given priority.
Research in the College of Nursing falls into four research foci:
- aging and health
- women's health
- bio-behavioral interventions
- health policy

Curriculum Design
A core curriculum of 33 credits that includes:
- Knowledge Development
- Nursing Theory
- Ethics
- Advanced Research with quantitative or qualitative tracks
- Interdisciplinary study (12-credits) in a discipline other than nursing.
- Dissertation research (15 credits) comprises the remaining 62 credits.
- The core curriculum and supporting courses may be completed in four sequential semesters of full-time enrollment. The doctoral curriculum is three years in length for full-time students.
- Individually directed dissertation research is a major aspect of the PhD program.
